Halloween Makeup Ideas

Happy Friday! Finally.

Halloween is tomorrow and if you're anything like me you're probably still trying to figure out what you want to be for Halloween. The price of costumes is out of the world now-a-days and how I typically get around that is the use of makeup and whatever accessories you may need (i.e. cat ears, gloves, eye contacts, etc.)

Five Ways to Stay Organized

It's almost Friday! :)

We all have our areas where we need improvement. For many people organization is a daily struggle, and can also cause unnecessary stress at times. Through my years of juggling working, going to school and attempting to have a personal life I have managed to make great improvements to my organization skills. There are many different ways to help get you organized and here is my top five:

My first tip is getting an agenda. I purchase an agenda once a year and put them through hell and back with how much I write inside of them. They are completely worth it and a complete lifesaver. Having an agenda allows you to plan your life monthly as well as daily. For me it is essential I have an agenda, this is where I stay on top of my work schedule, school assignment deadlines, my pesky bills that continuously pop up each month and of course my personal life. I take it with me everywhere I go and write an obscene amount of things inside of it.

My second tip is to get a notebook or notepad. Having an agenda is amazing for planning out your time, although you don’t want to start cluttering it up with all your ideas and your to-do lists. Having a notebook or a notepad to bring with you to where you go will give you the accessibility to write down important information that you don’t want to forget. This could be your weekly grocery list, or ideas you have for an upcoming assignment.

I am personally the type of person that likes to write things down and have a hard copy agenda and notebook, but for all you tech-savvy people out there, these two things can be done on your phone and/or on your computer.

My third tip is the phrase: put it away now. This can be said and done for anything. Putting whatever it is away right after you use it is one of the simplest ways to stay organized. Whether it be putting a lipstick away, your shoes, or a pen, putting these objects away right after you use them will not only keep your space clean and clear but also easier to that item the next time you need it. Nothing is more frustrating then trying to figure out the last place you put that specific shade of lipstick.

My fourth tip is to make shopping lists. This is something that I have just recently been trying out. I have two different lists that I make throughout the week. One being for necessities or things that I want to purchase, and the other is my grocery list. I've gone into stores millions of times for one specific thing, and left the store with numerous items forgetting that one specific thing you went there in the first place. It is normal for your mind to drift, and to get side tracked, especially when your shopping. Having a list won't prevent this from happening, but it will help remind you of what you needed in the first place. This can also help you if you are on a budget. If you stick to your list you will know you're within your budget rather then going into the store and grabbing things you think you might need.

My fifth tip is to have a file holder. Keeping your documents, such as your bills and important receipts can add up and clutter up your space very quickly, not to mention can also get lost. Having a file folder can help you keep all these important documents organized and easily accessible for when you need them. Avoid that unnecessary panic attack!

Alien Halloween Makeup | BoobyBall in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Hello!!

Today is such an exciting post because it is in collaboration with Rethink Breast Cancer. This fall is Rethink Breast Cancer's 14th annual Boobyball. It is held in four cities across Canada including Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and this year Ottawa is part of the fun as well. Colour Pop Cosmetics | Haul & Review

Happy Monday!!

I haven't done a haul here on my blog for a while but recently ordered not once, but twice from Colour Pop. I opted for their lip products for my first orders and got their liquid lipsticks, and they're a few of their lippies stix.

Mac Cosmetics Green Eye Liner | Fall Makeup Look

Hello, everyone!

I was ready and fully prepared to film my third Halloween look and felt uninspired. All I wanted to do was play with this new eyeliner that I purchased from Mac. So that is what I decided to do. This tutorial is a warm and neutral brown eye, keeping it fairly simple because I wanted the attention to be on the green eyeliner. It is a very easy look to achieve, and I am obsessed with it. It's a bit different for me since I have only ever worn black eyeliner (sometimes dark brown) but I fell in love with this shade.

October Ipsy Glam Bag

This month I got a lot of great items that I'm excited to share with you all. I've been using up so many products that I have received from these bags and have been loving almost all of them.

How To Create a Wound with Special Effects Makeup

Today's post is my second Halloween post and I'm really excited about it. For a couple of years now I have been learning different techniques for Halloween special effects makeup. This technique is what I find to be the most realistic and the easiest. Here is my step by step guide:

Step 1: I always go over the area you want to create the wound with foundation. I opted for ***

Step 2: Using any flat type brush (I purchase mine at the dollar store because it is a one time use brush) I dip it into the liquid latex and apply it where I want the wound to be.

Step 3: Think of the paper mache technique. Once you have the first layer of liquid latex down your going to take some tissue and apply it over the area.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 a couple of times to get a good level of thickness. I usually do four layers.

Step 5: I go over the edges of the liquid latex and tissue mixture with the same foundation to help blend the edges into the rest of the arm.

Step 6: I go in with black and brown eyeshadows (preferably matte but doesn't really matter) and start going over the edges and onto the skin to make it look dirty. For this look I went in with the Balm's Nude Tude Palette with the shades 'Serious' and 'Sleek' but any shadows will work.

Step 7: Wherever you want the wound to be flesh and open start ripping the liquid latex area. It does not have to be perfect. I just rip in the centre and drag it out a bit.

Step 8: The fun step. This is when you get to be creative and create your wound. I fill the flesh with black face paint and shadow and drag it outwards onto the remainder of the wound. I then go in with a red lipstick and fill in any remaining parts on the wound that you can still see the liquid latex.

Step 9: Add some fake blood. I get mine at my local Halloween shop and I just add a couple drops to the centre of the wound and then drag it out with a bursh.

 Your finished look:

Product Empties - Goods and the Bads

This is the first time I ever blog about the products that I have used up, but I have a huge box full of items that are begging to be blogged about. So here we go!

1. Batiste Dry Shampoo: This is my favourite dry shampoo that I have ever tried. I always buy mine at Winners or Marshall's because its nearly half the price than at a drugstore! I have repurchased this product many times and highly recommend it. It really helps with the extra un-wanted oils and it doesn't leave that white shadow if you have dark hair like me.

2. Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: I got the travel size of this product to first test it out. At the time that I purchased it I was completely obsessed and would shower myself in this after doing my makeup. Now that I have ran out I don't find myself reaching for my other setting sprays that I vowed I would use up before re-purchasing this one. Overall I do recommend this for anyone who plans on wearing their makeup for long periods of time, or have very oily skin but for my oily-combo skin I don't see myself absolutely needing it in my everyday makeup routine.

3. Sonia Kashuk Concealer Palette: I really loved this product and when they said that Target was closing in Canada I bought a backup. But to be honest for the price (I believe roughly $20) I find it is not worth it. Even though it is a really good concealer I only use two shades out of the three it comes with, and I have never used the powder. Is it good? Yes. Is it worth the price? I don't think so.

4. Onyx Professional 100% pure acetone Nail polish remover: I purchased this to help me take off acrylic nails and it did not make the process easier or less painful. It works to take off regular nail polish, but I don't recommend this particular nail polish remover because it's really harsh on your nails.

5. Revlon Colorstay 24 hours foundation: I loved this foundation! When I ran out I decided to try out the Revlon photo finish foundation and I don't like it nearly as much as this one. This foundation has a natural finish to it and light to medium coverage. It stays on very well and maintains my oils throughout the day. I definitely recommend this foundation to people who have oily to combo skin.

6. Maybelline Master Precise Eye Liner: This was a good eyeliner, it was very black and was easy to use. The only problem with these types of pen eyeliners is that I find they dry out so quickly! If you are having a hard time with liquid eyeliner I do recommend trying a product like this because they give you the most control. Otherwise I'd opt for a more traditional style liquid eye liner because it will last you a lot longer.

7. Maybelline The Rocket Mascara: I didn't mind this mascara, especially for the price. It made my lashes longer and a lot fuller. The only thing I didn't like about this mascara is that it was difficult to get off and after about a month I was getting a little bit of fall out. Nonetheless I still recommend this mascara because it is very affordable and works very well.

8. Loreal Telescopic Mascara: This is one of my holy grail mascaras from the drugstore. I have repurchased it many times. There were two of them in my product empties box! It is truly an amazng mascara! More pricey than the Maybelline the Rocket, but you will see incredible results in your lashes. Highly recommend!

That is it for my empties today. Thank you so much for reading! Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these products!

September 2015 Favourites

Another month flew by, which means another monthly favourites! As per usual I mostly have makeup favourites this month and one hair product that I've been obsessed with. Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see some lifestyle favourites for next month!

First up we have some face products. I have been obsessed with these two individually, and most of the time I wear them together. The Too Faced Born This Way foundation is perfection. I've heard so many people rave about it, and they are not wrong! This foundation is medium to build-able coverage and stays put. I love using a makeup sponge to blend this foundation out because it looks the most natural on my skin. With that I have been concealing with the new Maybelline Better Skin Concealer. It is full coverage but not too heavy or cakey under the eyes. It blends out really well and I don't have any issues with creasing.

Recently I just switched from using brow powders everyday to a brow pencil. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz quickly became a holy grail product for me this summer. I use it every single time I do my eye brows. It fills them in so quickly but still looks quite natural. I love the control you get with using a pencil.

I also have been switching back over to the gel eyeliner band wagon. I typically use liquid eyeliner but lately have been opting for gel! The Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in Black is the best gel eyeliner I have ever come across. Its so easy to work with and I always apply it with an angled brush to have the most control.

For eye shadows I have to mention these two Makeup Geek Eye Shadows in 'Creme Brulee' and 'Cocoa Bear'. I use these in 90 per cent of the time that I do my eye shadow. I cannot get enough they are so easy to blend and look stunning for everyday looks.

On my blog lately I have posted a lot about lip sticks that I love for fall (Drugstore Post and Mac Post) That being said, I decided to limit myself to two lip products I've been loving.

First is the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Lolita'. This is a famous shade in the liquid lipstick world and with good reason. The formula is amazing, not drying whatsoever. I apply lip balm about 5-10 minutes before applying this and I'm good to go all day. And it really does last all day!

Next I have the NYX Butter Gloss in 'Vanilla Cream Pie'. This is a really thick lip gloss. If you don't like glossy lips you probably wont really like this product. I love wearing this on its own, or on top of a nude lipstick.

Last, but not least, the hair product! Not makeup, weird. This is the Marc Anthony True Professional Nourishing Argan Oil. I love the way this product smells and it smooths the ends of my hair so well. I always apply this to the ends after I put heat on my hair, I find it helps make my hair less frizzy and helps keep the ends healthy.

That is all this month for my September Favourites. I cannot believe it is already October and I just posted my third monthly favourites to my blog! Thank you so much for reading!

Fall Makeup Must Haves

A lot of people ask me what are some must have fall products to have in their collection. I decided to write a blog post entirely dedicated to this subject and give options from high end products to drugstore products. These are my favourite fall go to items that I cannot live without.

Primers:

Primers are a must for me all year round.I have oily-combination skin. I am very oily in my t-zone especially in the center of the forehead. But in the winter I do get a little dry in some areas as well. These primers both work very well. They help fill in pores and make a smooth surface for your foundation to sit on, but also have great oil control.

1. Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

2. Make Up Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer in Smoothing

Foundations:

Foundations are tricky. Its difficult sometimes to find out what works for your skin, and also to colour match yourself. These three foundations I wear year round and they work best with my combination to oily skin.

1. Maybelline Matte & Poreless Foundation in '220 Natural Beige'

2. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in 'Warm Beige'

3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in '3W1 Tawny'

Concealers:

I like my concealers to be full coverage. Reason being is I have pretty bad dark circles under my eyes. These three are my go to's and they are very creamy in consistency but still very full coverage without being heavy or cakey.

1. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in 'Medium 1 Custard'

2. Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer in 'Light/Medium'

3. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in '10 Light'

Setting Powders

I am still on the hunt for a holy grail powder from the drug store. I do like the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder, but I find I have to re-set a couple hours later. These two are by far my holy grail powders and keep my skin from getting oily, and keeps my concealer from creasing, even under the eyes.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Setting Powder in 'Banana'
This product I have in the contour palette, but you can purchase it individually online.

2. Mac Studio Fix Powder in 'NC 30'

Bronzers & Contour Shades

1. Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in 'Give Me Sun!'

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Shades in 'Java' & 'Havana'
Also found in the contour palette and also sold individually online

3. NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder in 'Sunny'

Blushes

Blushes are one of my favourite things to collect. These are two I wear all year long, but gravitate towards especially in the fall because they are wearable with many eye looks. In the fall I wear more dramatic makeup looks, these two blushes always go well with them.

1. Milani Baked Blush in 'Luminoso'

2. Mac Blush in 'Melba'

Highlighters

For me, highlighters are a necessity in everyone's life. It does not matter what time of year it is, I truly believe that it is always a great idea to highlight. Now that being said I am currently on a hunt for a good drugstore highlighter, and am currently loving the Physicians Formula Highlighter in 'Warm Nude' but it has not become a holy grail item just yet. Here are my two most reached for highlighters.

1. Mac's Mineralize Skin Finish in 'Soft & Gentle'

2. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in 'Moonstone'

Eye Brows

I tend to stick to the same products for my eyebrows, I'm not very adventurous in this area of makeup, but am starting to try out new products. Here are my holy grail brow products.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in 'Dark Brown'

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in 'Dark Brown'

3. Maybelline Brow Drama in 'Deep Brown'

Eye Primers

Before I apply my eye shadow I have to apply a eye primer. I have oily eye lids, so without a primer my eye shadow would not last throughout the entire day. The two eye shadow bases (Mac & Nyx) work really well as primers and also help your eye shadow colours really stand out.

1. Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye Primer

2. Mac's Paint Pot in 'Soft Ochre'

3. Nyx Eye Shadow Base in 'Skin Tone'

Eye Shadows

Creating different looks using eyeshadows is my favourite thing about makeup. I love collecting palettes! This past year I also discovered Makeup Geek Eye Shadows. They are incredibly affordable and have such great pigmentation!

1. Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette

2. Maybelline The Nudes Palette

3. Makeup Geek Eye Shadows

4. Nyx by Ipsy Eye Shadow Trio (Found in my Ipsy September Bag here)

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Shadow Couture Palette (Review & Swatches here)

My Most Reached For Fall Nail Polishes

fall nail polishes
Fall is here, so typically we ditch the pretty light pastel shades that we've been reaching for this summer. Now we make room for our deep, warm, earth toned shades for the fall and winter months. I love having my nails painted and like to switch it up about once a week or so. Here are the shades I tend to reach for the most during the fall and winter months.

Go To Nudes/Subtle Shades

fall nail polishes nudes and pinks

1. Essie in 'Sand Tropez'
For my skin tone, this is the perfect nude for my nails. I go back to this shade time and time again. This shade is also very versatile, I wear it all year round, but tend to opt for it more during the colder months.

2. Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in 'Set in Stone'
This is a really great pale pink shade. I don't own any others like it. The only bad thing is I have to put three coats of this polish on in order to get the opacity that I want, which can be annoying. But once you do those three coats the shade is stunning.

3. Essie in 'Mochacino'
This is a darker brown nail polish that also has little flecks of glitter in it. I love this shade and a lot of the time I'll use this shade as a "accent nail" while the other ones are the Essie 'Sand Tropez' shade.

Go To Bold Statement Shades

bold statement nail polish shades

1. Julep in 'Diamond Theory'
I tend to use this one when I want to have one statement/decorative nail. The thing I love most about this nail polish is the formula. It is really easy to apply a thick layer of this, it doesn't break up when its being applied. It lasts a solid amount of time on the nails without chipping, but it is quite tricky to get off.

2. Essie in 'The Perfect Cover Up'
This forest green shade is stunning and a great statement polish to have in your collection. Even though the shade is very dark the formula and the applicator help make it easy to apply on your nail, so its not overly messy.

3. O.P.I in 'Grand Canyon Sunset'
This shade is new to me. I am not a huge O.P.I. nail polish collector, but the other day my mom and I went to get manicures. While I opted for a vampy colour (Essie Wicked), she went for this stunning dark dusty rose shade. Once I saw it on her nails I loved it and it is definitely the next shade going on my nails!

4. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in 'Pacific Blue'
I love this shade of blue, its very easy to apply, dries very fast, but it does chip quite easily so it cannot go without a top coat.

5. Trust Fund Beauty in 'Elegantly Wasted'
I got this shade in my Ipsy glam bag last month and when I saw it I knew right away that I was going to be reaching for it during the early fall months.

6. Essie in 'Wicked'
This is by far my favourite out of all the polishes that I own. Its the perfect deep berry shade for fall. It goes with nearly everything and the formula is perfection.

These are my most reached for shades in the fall months. I love the warm earth toned colours for fall. I'm currently on the hunt for a burnt orange nail polish, if you know of any comment below!! Thank you for reading!
